Soft Touch Spa at The Kempinski Hotel has the best location for convenience; it's connected to Dubai's enormous Mall of the Emirates. This means after a day of exhausting wanderings through the millions of retail stores at the Mall, or snow fun and skiing slopes at Ski Dubai, you can easily unwind and relax with a rejuvenating facial or massage before even leaving the venue.
Walking into the hotel foyer of Kempinski Hotel foyer, almost directly opposite Ski Dubai, sit Dubai's elite guests who are in transit. You will take the lift up to Soft Touch Spa's secluded oasis. There is nothing to do but simply sit down and begin the unwinding process in the ‘peace room,' a haven complete with cozy beds and soothing music. Then you are escorted into a treatment room where scented candles set a tranquil mood.
I tried the blissful Ligne St Bath's facial. After an intense yet blissful cleansing, toning and moisturizing ritual using products from the luxurious St Barth's rage (made in the Caribbean and using 100% natural ingredients) I lay back to enjoy a heavenly hand massage to complete. Totally tropical pampering at it's very best!
There was a skip in my step as I left this spa feeling fabulous, blemish free and with skin that really did glow with health all week!
Chi Spa, at Shangri La hotel in Dubai, UAE, boasts a specialty Balinese massage so authentic your therapist is likely to be direct from Bali, Indonesia.
Located amidst the hustle and bustle of Sheik Zayed Road, the Balinese treatment is only one of the 90 minute massages listed on a luxurious menu of body massages and facials.
Chi Spa prides itself on drawing inspiration from ancient Asia's healing philosophies. Therapists work with Chi energy to encapsulate an authentic approach through movement, stretching, and hydrotherapy. Sound therapy is encompassed into the relaxation technique, which is something worth expecting, as the sound of a gong circling your half naked body - although beneficial with vibrating energies, may also result in a fit of the giggles, as it did with me!
I'd had an active day, so a few hours of pampering the mind and body Balinese style was not a bad idea. I easily relaxed; let my muscles and joints be manipulated by the gentle hands of a trained therapist. Delicious essential oils worked into my body's ligaments with wonderful ritualistic steps. Music enveloped a sensation of soothing and helped transport my mind to a tropical beach in Bali.
Staff were gracious and encouraged me to take extra time before the treatment by indulging in the spa's three temperature pools, steam room, sauna and sipping from an abundance of healthy ginger tea, great for the digestive.
All facilities are available to help return to ‘the real world.' Shower, dressing gown, luxe moisturizers, shampoo and conditioners, hair dryer and comb are at the disposal of every client. I emerged completely relaxed with energy centers re-balanced and a healthier feeling from the inside.
Valet parking is available.
Set in a romantic boutique hotel on the shores of Byron Bay, you'd be forgiven for mistaking the exclusive in-house Spa at Rae's on Watego's for a golden lair discreetly nestled at the base of this pink 1960s establishment. With the arched wooden doors wide open and the gold mosaic corridor shimmering, it's hard to resist a closer look let alone eyeing off the spa menu. But once the doors are shut, and work is in progress, you'd have no idea it was even there.
Purveying the same sense of intimacy and privacy one comes to expect fromRae's on Watego's, offering an exclusive mix of three penthouses, two suites and a villa, you can relax assured of impeccable service and high-quality care. Featuring a Vichy room, steam room, and two treatment rooms that also open as a couples room, the space remains perfectly intimate, quiet and soothing. Far from simply actioning the movements, treatments are intuitive, engaging 100% of the therapist's attention. No phones ringing down the hall. No other therapists peeping their heads around the door.
Get the celebrity treatment
Offering massage treatments, skin care therapies, body treatments and nurturing spa rituals, the Spa menu comes celebrity-tested. With a long list of celebrity clients, the small team of therapists are of the highest calibre. Using La Gaia formulations with Naturaceuticals, a range scientifically devised and derived from nature, as well as the occasional product from Spanish line Germaine de Capuccini, quality and results collide.
From busy to bliss
Personally, I'm one of those clients who can only start to relax about ten minutes from the end, at which point I simultaneously begin to panic because I know the end is nigh. I think too much. Even if it's just about the lovely, sweet aromas filling the room, my mind races at any chance. But somehow in the hands of Marionne de Candia, known as a 'celebrity facialist' in the spa world, my brain lapsed into nothingness. All thoughts melted in 10 minutes flat, leaving my hyper-sensitive brain in a deep slumber that took nearly four hours to emerge from afterwards. This truly is a bliss unlike any other.
Standouts from the Spa menu
Spa ritual: Silver Rain
A stimulating body exfoliation and Vichy shower, accompanied by an aromatherapy massage.
Body treatment: The Golden Veil
Coated in a rich, golden algae blend and sealed in silken sheets, includes a body massage that stimulates the anti-ageing properties of this luxurious treatment.
Skin care: The Pink Orchid
Connecting head and heart, this opulent facial incorporates precious gemstones, charka point therapy and acupressure.
Extend the treat
With the Spa opening out onto the Rae's on Watego's pool and tropical gardens, and the hotel perched on a palm-fringed beachfront, the treatment doesn't have to end when you leave the treatment room. And being Byron Bay, where hippy and trendy merge, there are numerous organic and vegetarian delights to be found nearby to keep the goodness flowing.
Services facial, manicure, pedicure, body wraps, hot stone therapy, body scrub, reflexology, reikii, massage.

A visit to Splash Day Spa on Australia's Gold Coast is a purely indulgent way to escape a bustling world; immersing yourself for a few hours in a cosy, underground oasis. Below Surfers Paradise, you can let your body and mind be restored...
There are two entrances to Splash; one is off the mall of Chevron Renaissance, and the other (is the entrance I prefer,) hidden lower than street level, so you feel like you're entering a secluded and sacred den - exclusive to those ‘in the know.'
Walking into the reception, complete with sparkling chandelier, a premonition of glamorous pampering is definitely hard to avoid. Infamous Dermalogica products adorn the walls and a friendly receptionist offers a large comfy lounge area to rest in, followed by a tour of the Spa. Grant Robinson, who runs the spa, has recently returned from Dubai (home of the 5 star Spa experience) - an influence that is noticeable when glancing around the Spa in the luxurious detailing throughout the dimly lit bathhouse. The Spa boasts temperature plunge pools, massage-jet hydrotherapy pools, large steam rooms and sauna, pampering rooms for massage and facials, and a lounge bar with complimentary tea and healthy nibbles, if you fancy. Beauty treatments and enhancements are on offer in the Splash clinic. The change rooms are equipped with everything a 5 star hotel Spa would provide - gown, slippers, chilled lemon water for the day and preparation products to help you return to the real world later, like hair dryer and products.
I arrived early and spent some time rejuvenating in the heat and weightlessness of a 38 degree pool, (fyi official relaxation temperature) and sauna. I held my breath and attempted the cold pool in between, for the circulation health benefits from rapid temperature change- it's a definite pick-me-up.
Time passed too quickly and I was called for my renewing facial. Led into a facial room, resting upon comfortably cushioned table, and listening to the soothing sounds of trendy Norah Jones, the therapist embarked on 55 minutes of face therapy. Dermalogica products cleansed me, and micro-exfoliated my skin. Any pain from extractions was forgotten with a flowing neck and shoulder massage using oil-free massage balm. A hand massage (you get to choose hand or feet) took away my tension, and a multi vitamin power mask worked it's magic while a heavenly head massage finished the treatment - much to the opposition of my mind and body which could have stayed in the blissful facial trance forever....
My verdict: If Surfers Paradise is party city central, then Splash Day Spa is definitely where I'd take myself to rest the next day.
