For those nights when you can't decide to go out and sip cocktails under the stars or sit on the sofa with a good movie, The Screening Room has the answer. Both! Located on downtown club street, the heart of Singapore's trendy nightspot area, The screening Room brings together four floors of something to do.

In the basement is a hidden whisky den selling nothing but the finest and most difficult to attain bottles of whisky (randomly picking up a bottle shows a 38 year label and $S1300 price tag. Maybe try a nip for $S26..) while kilt-wearing-Scottish dude plays acoustics to those in the know who have a whisky in tow. Ground level boasts a fine dining restaurant with cosy atmosphere and al fresco option. Upstairs on level one is a movie theatre like no other in town. And one more flight of stairs takes you up to the Rooftop Bar; where sipping cocktails and wine under the moon and stars, and chatting away into the night as a dj plays soulful sounds is what it's all about.

The rooftop bar is where the city's young and hip meet up. Putting you at eye level with the historic shop houses of the city, it's a perfect spot to watch the sunset with a mohito in hand. Just like Tom Cruise in the movie Cocktail, funky barmen show off their bottle spinning skills as they make your drink.  I tried the Mohito and must admit the fusion of mint to sugary-limed rum combo chilled with ice was welcoming on a warm Singapore evening, and extended to the uber cool ambience. .

At 9:15pm the Saturday movie starts on level three. The Screening Room is just that; an intimate and comfy collection of lounges and cushions in front of a big screen - nothing like your typical movie experience of a massive screen and enormous sized audience seated in freezing air-con. On entering the cinema you might easily think you've entered a movie director's Hollywood home theatre - it seats about 30.  And watching a film curled up with cushions on the couch and your wine on the side table - might easily think you're at home. I saw the film Being Julie with Annette Benning and Jeremy Irons which wasn't a new film, but that's also a pulling power of the cinema, it can be booked for private screenings of older movies.

I'd recommend The Screening Room to people who can't decide to go out or stay in, and for those who like a hip and cultured ambience. Top tip from me - try the herbed popcorn!
