Located in the heart of Singapore, the St Regis Hotel - already a name synonymous with luxe personal treatment and plush surroundings of the utmost extravagance - redefines the art of rejuvenating decadence with their in-house Remede Spa.
After a smiling reception and spa tour, you are shown to your large locker, full of comfort-inducing amenities, and left to enjoy the surroundings until treatment time. Walking through your spa heaven, you'll come across enormous detoxing steam chambers, heated wave lounges and pool, a cedar wood sauna that envelops the senses, as does the sensorial spa. If you feel like a refreshing contrast, there is an ice fountain for contrast, just located close to the cedar wood sauna.
If you feel a little peckish, Spa dining offers customized treats, light gourmet lunches, an exotic selection of teas, chilled champagne and floral scented truffles. Showers are stocked with Remede Spa branded conditioners, shampoos and even body scrubs. My advice is to arrive early, and bring your swimmers!
When your treatment time arrives, you will be collected and escorted without thought. In the treatment room, the trained therapist will explain the procedure, oils used, techniques, and a little of it's its history. I did try the signature Jade massage, and my therapist, William, explained how his teacher travelled to a remote village in China specifically to hand select the jade for this purpose. For his teacher knew the benefits of the green stone, and that jade retains heat longer than traditional stone therapy, commonly practiced with a black granite stone.
The massage is set to soothing sounds; the heat of the stone gliding over your limbs is expertly manoeuvred by your therapist, who works closely with the temperature changes, switching stones, which are warmed nearby. Feel the worries of your world fade into the distance, replaced with a revitalizing energy.
If you're wondering what's so special about jade, let me tell you. Jade is universally known to balance the heart chakra. The ancient Chinese culture has revered Jade for centuries. It is considered to be a lucky stone that offers good health, wealth, harmony and love. A dream enhancer, it has been praised as an emotional healer, detoxifying, and dream enhancing. Green jade, in particular, is very calming to the nervous system. And so your body will absorb these healing properties in the jade massage - have to say, I felt very energised afterwards.
My therapist, William, believes the jade stone works from the heart. At the end of my massage, he turns to me and says, ‘I love my job, because I believe from my heart in the energy of the jade.' And I believe him.
The Remede Spa at St Regis is open from 8am to 10pm, with treatments offered from 9.00am to 8.30pm. The spa is open to all guests at the hotel and also to walk-in clients - although advance booking for treatments is advised.
