I have previously had the pleasure of visiting Koh Phangan, and more specifically the tiny beach of Thong Nai Pan Noi on numerous occasions however never to this particular resort.  With only a small cluster of hotels on a tranquil beach, it is the epitome of a picture perfect hideaway.
If I had to sum this beautiful luxury resort up in one word I would just call it ‘still’.  It sits on the secluded shoreline where the boats gently bob and nature just minds its own business.
How to Get there: Due to its remote location there are two options to get to Thong Nai Pan Noi – either by speedboat from the larger Koh Samui island or alternatively by passenger ferry then 4x4 over land from one of the island’s larger piers.
Who For: Perfect for couples after some relaxation.
Rooms:  There are 64 rooms and suites spread across the beach, gardens and mountain backdrop that provide something to cater to most tastes. Comprising indoor and outdoor living spaces ranging from 100 to a spacious 260 square metres, each sanctuary reflects its own charming character.  In natural harmony with the exotic surroundings, wood and stone features provide a striking backdrop to rich hand woven silks.  Luxury comforts inside range from a “blissful dreams” mattress adorned with 500 thread count linens, to a 32 inch flat screen TV with home theatre entertainment, and extravagant outside facilities include an indulgent private plunge pool.
Food and Drink: In keeping with the barefoot luxury theme, Rasananda’s food offering comes courtesy of Bistro @ The Beach.  Located enviably between the beach and pool, you can feel the sand between your toes while dining on a mix of local and international meals and snacks.  I would recommend any of the delectable fresh fish dishes caught locally and turned into a masterpiece before your eyes.
The Lounge features the island’s only sea view wine cellar with a selection of vintage wines, champagnes and cigars.  The resident Wine Guru will gladly take you through some wine tastings and pairings on request and this is also where the weekly cocktail parties are held.
For something that little extra special the chefs will also cater to a private meal with your input either in your villa or on the beach with their personalised ‘Dining by Design’ programme with butler service.
Facilities:  Whether you are a beach or pool person, there are literally a few steps between the two.  The beachfront infinity pool is perfect for whiling away the day and sipping on an exotic cocktail, or alternatively the warm tropical blue sea is calm and ideal for a swim.
The resort also offers a range of water sports, including scuba diving and snorkelling which is something not to be missed thanks to the crystal clear waters.  The Activities desk can also arrange local excursions, many of which can be taken on the resort’s 37-foot ocean cruiser, and organise Thai cookery classes if you would like to try your hand at making your own Thai Curry or Tom Yum Soup.
Undoubtedly, the highlight of Rasananda’s facilities is its beautiful spa.  Small but perfectly formed, guests that enjoy a pamper can take full advantage of a comprehensive menu of treatments ranging from a simple foot massage through to an extended restorative journey with the highly trained therapists. The enviable backdrop of mountains, woodland and waterfalls only add to the experience as the treatment rooms are actually open air
Anantara Spa’s holistic approach offers private yoga classes for individuals or groups of two. These take place on the shady poolside deck of a guest’s private suite or villa, on a spacious wooden platform nestling amongst pristine sands with the sound of gentle waves creating the ideal tranquil atmosphere.  90 minute lessons or extensive three, five and seven day programmes offer an inspirational approach, complete with spiritual quotes and focused intentions, as well as a personalised exercise plan to take home.
Insiders Tip: Don’t get tricked into thinking that Koh Phangan is just for full moon party ravers, there is a lot more to the island with Anantara Rasananda on the opposite providing an oasis of calm and peacefulness.
